Martha’s Vineyard

The Town of Tisbury, on the island of Martha’s Vineyard, had an elementary school that needed renovation to the building, which was plagued with lead, asbestos, and building envelope problems. The convenience of modular and the lack of access to the surrounding buildings led the town to release this project out to bid. The proposed bid would seek out 4 modular classroom buildings with a total of 28 classrooms to provide a place for the students to continue learning for the duration of the twentymonth renovation of their classrooms. Additionally, the selected vendor would need the capacity to barge the 32 modules through the bay from New Bedford, MA.

The VESTA Modular team worked with the architect, Tappe Architects, and the construction manager, W.T. Rich Company, to design and construct the extra space for the end user, Town of Tisbury on Martha’s Vineyard during their renovations. The architect assisted in designing floor plans based on the specifications we provided to meet the town’s needs as well as be marketable to future VESTA customers once the lease is concluded. At the end of construction, there were (3) 124’x60’ and (1) 68’x60’ modular classroom buildings, housing 28 classrooms, delivered and assembled in the Town of Tisbury. Through the bidding process, VESTA acquired and strengthened relationships with local vendor trades based on the island to help ensure we would be able to overcome the largest obstacle of the project, the remote location.

Frequenty Asked Questions

No. Modular buildings, even temporary ones, can be expected to last for decades. Permanent modular buildings may last for generations.

You can choose to purchase or lease modular buildings. At VESTA, we offer two leasing options:

  • Operational lease: With an operational lease, you can essentially rent the building for us as long as you need. When your lease ends, the building will return to our inventory. Operational leases can last for years at a time, although they are typically more affordable if they only last for five years or less.
  • Financed lease: Financed leases allow you to lease a building with the intention of owning. At VESTA, we work with financing partners who are specifically trained to finance leases for modular buildings.

Yes! Modular buildings are easy to customize. Whether you want a specific layout, materials, interior design, exterior design, specialty rooms, furniture, or amenities, we can customize your modular building to fit your needs.

The best way to understand is to remember that all modular construction is prefabricated, but not all prefabricated construction is modular.

Modular construction typically focuses on the assembly of fully closed or nearly closed modules. “3D volumetric” is also a term used for traditional modular construction. Prefab construction refers to anything pre-built for a building project, including pre-built walls, floors, or ceilings.
